Everyone knows the weekend’s a goldmine, but Friday is the secret shaft where the real money flows. You miss it, you miss the early mover advantage, you miss the cash.

First up, Lightning Bolt snapped the track like a whip, 5.23 seconds faster than the field. Second, the under-dog, Midnight Runner, surprised everyone, taking the second spot by a nose. Third, the veteran, Old Timer, still holds his ground, cruising home with a respectable placing.

Betting odds shifted dramatically after the 2 p.m. tote release — odds slumped from 12/1 to 4/1 on Lightning Bolt. That tells you the market smelled a winner. Meanwhile, Midnight Runner’s odds widened from 8/1 to 6/1, a clear sign of a late-stage rally.

Lightning Bolt: five runs, three wins, two seconds. Consistency is his middle name. Midnight Runner: three runs, one win, two thirds — upward trajectory, but still volatile. Old Timer: ten runs, two wins, five places — reliably solid, but aging.

The track was “fast” after a light drizzle. Fast tracks favor early speed, which is why Lightning Bolt exploded out of the gate. Wet-soft conditions would have reshuffled the order, giving a leg-up to the stamina-based runners.

Here’s the deal: focus on early speed bets — win and place on the front-runners. Avoid the exotic combos unless you have a deep dive into the trainer’s form. And here is why: the odds compress quickly, leaving less value for the late-comers.
